For the Poet:
Poetri’s Poetry workshop focuses on ways to enhance the written
word when it becomes spoken. Participants will discuss overall public
delivery, incorporating verbal and nonverbal gestures, analyzing and
adapting to the challenges of venue restrictions, connecting with audiences,
techniques to controlling nervousness, and the significance of creating
poems that work well on both the page and the stage.
For the Student:
Poetri expounds on the fundamentals of performance skills - position,
voice projection,
gesture, movement - relevant not only to poem performance, but also
to manifestation of self in everyday life. The students will recite
their own poems demonstrating the use of the learned performance skills.
The students will create a group poem, assigning parts and finding
motion and emotion for each line, from a collective focal point - a
painting, event, or common topic.
For the Teacher:
Poetri provides for teachers several exercises that encourage creative
writing in and out of the classrooms with a great focus on personal
memories and how they can be used in artistic discoveries. Through
a series of exercises that stimulate the imagination, teachers learn
how to catch the moment of inspiration and develop it,
battle writer’s block and stage fright, and recapture the childhood
joys of making new and wonderful visions out of the most commonplace
things. Once obtained, educators are better prepared to provide these
skills for their students.
GOALS and OBJECTIVES:
The goals of this course are to develop the skills needed for
spoken communication, to increase appreciation and enjoyment of free
verse, to become a more effective speaker, to develop skills in listening
and in giving and getting constructive verbal and nonverbal feedback,
and most of all…to find personal ways of expression in this
eloquent art that we all call Poetri.
For the Corporate Event:
The precise corporate event entertainment contributes enormously to
the success of a business meeting, conference, trade show, or convention.
Corporate entertainment can up-lift company spirits, create camaraderie,
and enrich what might otherwise be just considered a monotonous, "strictly
business" event.
People all over are talking about his already classic pieces "Krispy
Kreme" and "Money". If he isn’t cursing his addiction
to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, he’s abandoning the single scene and
dating himself or asking the audience to tell his much loved and missed
money to come home. Poetri has been performing his comedic
style of spoken word for the past twelve years. This unique fashion
of clean ‘cometry’ has been shared with thousands of people
